Student Leadership

& Student Clubs.

We cultivate leadership through meaningful opportunities that allow students to shape school life, lead with purpose, and grow through responsibility. From our Student Council to student-led clubs, we foster initiative, collaboration, and a strong sense of community.

Empowering future leaders.

We believe leadership is a skill that can be nurtured and developed. Through a range of opportunities, we empower students to take initiative, lead with confidence, and have their voices heard, ensuring they play an active role in shaping their school community. Through the different positions of responsibility available, students gain valuable experience in decision-making, teamwork, and problem-solving; all essential skills for success in university and beyond. By fostering a culture of responsibility and initiative, we prepare our students to become effective leaders in their future careers and society.

The Student Council.

The mission of the Student Council is to improve and promote educational, supportive and common interest activities for the student body. It is a crucial part of our leadership offer at Virtus College since it is wholly student led.

Our Student Council plays a vital role within the school’s organisation since they speak for their year groups, organise events, lead in the community service projects and be an example for the rest of the classmates. Among their other responsibilities is also organising and promoting Student-Led Clubs and Societies.

This involves considering students’ and teachers’ interests, initiative viability, and organising school events to strengthen students’ organisational, teamwork, resilience, and leadership skills.

It also fosters the spirit of community and the academic involvement of students in general.

“This approach is ideal at an age in which students look for values and references to find their place and voice in society. At Virtus they find a setting with almost unlimited opportunities to develop their talentschallenges."

Student-Led Clubs.

The Student-Led Clubs, planned and managed by students under the guidance of the Clubs and Societies Prefect, provide a weekly opportunity for personal growth, recreation, and exploration. The catalogue of clubs and societies is ever-evolving, shaped by student and teacher interests, fostering a collaborative and vibrant school community.

By leading these clubs, students gain valuable leadership experience while pursuing their passions and connecting with peers and staff in meaningful ways. This ensures that each student can leave their personal mark on Virtus College during their time here.

Through the Enrichment Programme, students gain a global outlook, deeper self-awareness, and the intellectual confidence to contribute meaningfully in any setting. These experiences allow students to strengthen their university applications, demonstrate commitment to their chosen degrees, and stand out among other applicants.

Virtus College Houses.

Following a proud British educational tradition, at Virtus College we have established four distinct houses which we assign to each student: Attenborough, Austen, Hawking and Seacole. Year 12 and Year 13 students are grouped together in these houses, allowing them to connect with peers from a different year group and subject area. This encourages a sense of community and diversity within our student body, enriching their overall educational experience.

Furthermore, our House System promotes healthy competition among students. They engage in inter-house competitions encompassing a range of activities, including drama and sports. These events not only highlight our students’ talents but also teach them the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. We also maintain a house point system that rewards positive contributions and accomplishments to encourage each student to actively participate in the creation of a dynamic school experience.

Seacole:

Named after Mary Seacole, this house fosters empathy, resilience, and service, inspiring students to make positive impacts in their community.

Austen:

Honouring Jane Austen, this house celebrates creativity, critical thinking, and a love for literature, encouraging students to explore the richness of language and culture.

Attenborough:

Named after Sir David Attenborough, this house promotes environmental awareness and conservation, inspiring students to become stewards of the Earth through hands-on exploration and research.

Hawking:

Inspired by Stephen Hawking, this house champions intellectual curiosity, innovation, and scientific inquiry, empowering students to push the boundaries of knowledge and embrace challenges with determination.
