PSHE fosters confident, responsible and self-aware students. Our curriculum nurtures social, moral and cultural capital, equipping pupils with essential life skills for a healthy, successful future.
What is PSHE?
Central to this is PSHE – Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education – a core element of British education and a compulsory subject for all pupils. Our curriculum is aligned with the UK framework recommended by the PSHE Association and the Department for Education, and is designed to prepare students for life beyond the classroom.
PSHE develops students’ social, moral, spiritual and cultural capital, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions and lead confident, healthy lives. It also plays a vital role in our whole-school approach to wellbeing and risk prevention. Topics such as nutrition, interpersonal relationships and mental health are reinforced through ongoing support and guidance, ensuring each student feels valued, supported and prepared to thrive.
The content in PSHE.
PSHE sessions provide a space for students to reflect, discuss and debate issues relevant to their lives in a respectful, thoughtful setting. At Virtus College, these topics are structured into three core strands:
Relationships
Covering areas such as respectful relationships, family dynamics and citizenship.
Health and wellbeing
Exploring mental and emotional health, sex education, physical wellbeing and nutrition.
Living in the wider world
Focusing on online safety, financial literacy, career guidance and preparing for adult life.
